CMPA Causes

The infants immune system is developing so it can respond easily to different triggers. If an infant’s immune system incorrectly identifies a protein in cow's milk to be harmful it can trigger an allergic reaction.

Normally the immune system will be looking out for pathogens that are genuinely harmful, like viruses or bacteria. But when the immune system makes this error and tries to attack the protein in cow’s milk, the reaction can lead to a range of different symptoms.

Why this happens is still not well understood, but it is not believed to be connected to genetics.
